The Bologna Illustrators Exhibition has started its China tour in the capital, showcasing more than 300 illustrations by 76 artists from around the world.

They were selected from more than 2,000 entries to the 2019 Bologna Children's Book Fair, an event dedicated to children's publications.

Two of the show's illustrators are Chinese artists Li Yuke and Wu Peng.

For Wu, it's the second time her illustrations have made the cut.

She says travel is her biggest inspiration.

"I like traveling very much, and I like to draw the stuff I see during my trips. In 2018, me and my friend traveled to South Korea's Jeju Island. I was immediately amazed by the crystal-clear sea and the beach when I arrived, so I drew this series of illustrations," says Wu.

From its launch in 1967, the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition has become an important gathering in the world of illustration.

Since it debuted in China in 2016, the event has attracted a big gathering of both artists and enthusiasts from across the country.

Wu says: "I went to the first exhibition in China in 2016. It was quite an eye-opener for me, because it had the best children's illustrations from around the world on display and introduced the latest trends in illustration. It also offered me a chance to learn from other artists - what they use and how they paint. It made me think out of the box. It has influenced me a lot."

This year's event will also feature a series of lectures and workshops. The exhibit will run until October 18.
